Extreme Makeover Bedroom Edition

So yesterday we decided to paint the ceiling in our bedroom with a paint sprayer that my dad gave us. He gave us everything except the instruction manual. First we carried out all of our furniture, covered all the windows in paper, and covered the carpet with drop cloths. So then we put it all together and turned it on and paint spilled out all over the floor. We turned it off and cleaned it up, made some adjustments and tried again. This time paint sprayed out the back of the gun instead of the front. Finally, about an hour later we got it working and it only took about 5 minutes to spray the whole ceiling. The actual spraying took far less time than the set up and search for the online manual.

Now we had a sort of "If You Give a Mouse a Cookie" situation going. Since we had sprayed the ceiling and gotten paint on the wall, we decided we needed to paint the walls. We used the sprayer to put on the primer. So now it's time to clean the sprayer. Again, we have no manual, and we can't take the laptop outside to look at the one online, so it's a guessing game. We did not hook it up right and paint/water sprayed all over me. My face and body were covered in white spots. I wish I had taken pictures but all I could do was stand in the driveway and laugh. Together, Keith and I finally figured it out and got it cleaned out.

Now since the walls are primed, we have to paint them. I go to Lowe's and get a sample of blue and a sample of green. We don't like either. Back to Lowe's for another sample of green, which we liked. So today we painted the walls with rollers because we were not about to tackle that sprayer again.

Overall it turned out well. A little painting adventure is always fun and a good reminder of why it's important to choose the colors you like and never, ever paint over them.

Maybe I should have moved the TV wire before taking the picture :)

Tee off for Tatas

So this weekend I hosted a miniature golf tournament to raise money for my Breast Cancer 3 Day walk. I had the tournament at the miniature golf course where Lindsey, Keith's sister, works. I raised $475, not bad for a day's work.

These are the chocolate covered Oreos I made for the event.

Strawberry cupcakes with pink buttercream frosting and breast cancer ribbon sprinkles.
Pink ribbon cookies. The hot pink ones have fondant and pearl dust, the light pink are royal icing. I must admit that I made about 10 times as many as I needed and spent waaaay too much time doing it. I love baking though so any excuse is a good one.

These are my army of rubber ducks that I bought to sell. Keith and Paul were good sports and worked the "duck game". Kids picked ducks from the pond and won a prize.

It takes a lot of helpers to pull of a fundraiser. My husband, Keith and his sister helped. My best friend Candace and her husband were there as well as Keith's mom and my mom. We had a good time and raised a lot of money.

Rain-cation

We just got back from vacation. It rained almost every day so I named it raincation. We still had fun but we didn't get to spend as much time at the beach as I would have liked. We did, however, get to read several old magazines that other guests had left in the house. I read some US weekly magazines from 2008, it's funny to read about how in love celebrities are one year later knowing that the relationships didn't work.

Keith and my dad ate oysters non-stop while we were there. Apalachacola is known for its oysters so they ordered them at restaurants and then hatched a plan to get some to take home. They went to the dock where the oyster boats were and asked one of the fishermen if they could buy some oysters from them. Well the oyster-men aren't allowed to sell them so they directed us across the bay to a little shack. Once inside the shack we found that we could buy 60 pounds of oysters for $25. So being that we now had 60 pounds of oysters someone had to cook them. I hate oysters. I think they stink and look disgusting, but I had the pleasure of steaming oysters every lunch and dinner for 3 days. If I never steam another oyster, I will be happy.

The sun finally came out on Thursday. I made sure to put my SPF 55 on my face and my 45 everywhere else. I even re-applied around 11. Apparently I missed a good sized area on my chest and, since Keith had already gone back to the house, my back didn't get any the second time around. So even though it rained most of the time I still came home with a sun burn.

All in all a great vacation. Keith goes back to school for 3 weeks starting Tuesday and I have 3 more weeks before I go back to school.

Running is for Kenyans

I completed a 10K today. I did not run all of it, but I finished. It is a tradition in Atlanta and Keith signed up but I didn't. Our neighbor got a number but couldn't run so he gave it to me and my running career was launched. I have to say that running sucks. It's just not fun. I ran the first 2 miles fine but then I was just bored with running. I walked a little and ran a little to finish the race. I saw some fun people dressed in July 4th gear and some other interesting costumes as well. I finished the race in 1 hour 22 minutes, not terrible. I might run another race sometime but probably not anytime soon.
